Teaching

I offer private lessons in guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, and banjo. I teach all levels of experience and age. I treat each student as an individual. I don't follow or believe in any one method/approach working for every student. My goal is to discover what really sparks the desire of the student to want to play, and work from that perspective. I can teach how to read traditional music notation as well as learning how to play by ear. Ultimately, I believe if a student can do both, they will be well rounded. I expect my students to practice on a consistent basis. I also want and desire feedback from my students in order to get the most out of lessons. I will guide you but want to know your musical interests. Communication between instructor and student is key.

I am also available for recording/studio sessions. I have extensive experience recording in a variety of styles, and am able to sight read as well as play by ear. Contact me for lesson and studio work pricing.

My preferred method of payment, and what most of my students use, is Venmo. There are a few ways to pay through this service and an option for instant verification. Just like paypal and square, Venmo uses bank grade security systems and data encryption to protect you and guard against any unauthorized transactions and access to your personal or financial information.

To pay through Venmo:

  • Please click the Venmo icon and follow the quick steps to set up your profile.

  • Verify your payment options and receive confirmation.

  • To find me on Venmo, when you send a payment, you should type in my name as Robert Lloyd Martin or rlmartin71 - both will pull up my profile.

Venmo is also available on the App Store and Google Play.

I also accept payments via Square, whether live or over the phone.

Having known Robert over 20 years, and having played with, and learned from him in a variety of musical styles, I'd guarantee that one lesson will validate your decision to be his student. His experience and patient demeanor will pay dividends for all levels of students. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend Robert Martin as an outstanding guitar teacher. My 10-year-old daughter has been taking lessons from him for more than two years, and he consistently brings out the best in her musical abilities. He is not her first guitar teacher, so I make an observed comparison when I say he is excellent at what he does. I’m impressed with his patience and the encouragement he offers to my daughter. He is always looking for what will spark her interest and stretch her skills. She has had many wonderful opportunities open to her as a direct result of his teaching and influence. Her guitar lessons with Robert continue to be exceptional experience for her. I give him high praise for his expert teaching.
